How Branford Arrests Work
Branford is an incorporated town, yet the Suwannee County Sheriff's Office does all the policing. The official SCSO Patrol Division page says deputies cover both the unincorporated county and the Town of Branford. No Branford Police Department appears in the town's department list or in the Sheriff's directory of county agencies. A mugshot hunt should never start with a municipal police site that is not there.
Deputies write the law-enforcement report, and Suwannee County Jail handles intake. The Sheriff's jail page names that facility as the booking point for every agency working in the county. One records system therefore holds the arrest report, booking entry, and intake photo for a typical Branford arrest, even if different SCSO units answered the call. The Clerk of Court keeps the criminal file that comes later.
The 2020 Census counted 711 residents. A town that small gets no separate booking system. SmartCOP runs countywide and can display the arresting agency on a charge row, though it offers no town filter. Stick to verified names and dates, then open the booking details to confirm the agency and case number.
Branford Busted Patrol Coverage
Four patrol squads work rotating 12-hour shifts, per SCSO. That schedule keeps a deputy on duty around the clock across the county service area that includes Branford. The Sheriff's directory also lists a Branford office at (386) 935-4514. Real coverage, in other words. It is still the Sheriff's office, though, not a "Branford PD."
Here is what that means in practice. A deputy answering a call inside Branford opens an SCSO file. If the stop ends in an arrest, Suwannee County Jail creates the booking event and the SmartCOP record. State agencies can also arrest in the area and still book through the county jail. The charge row may name the arresting agency, but the booking custodian stays SCSO.
There is no town blotter, records counter, arrest feed, or mugshot page. Do not fill that gap with a news story or a commercial database. The official route has three stops: Sheriff patrol and records, county jail booking, then the Suwannee Clerk for whatever the court does next.
Where Branford Busted Mugshots Appear
For adult county bookings, the public SmartCOP interface is the official source that actually shows photos. Its default screen, "BOOKED Last 24 Hours," offers a fresh window on who came in. The search form goes further. It lets you query by name, booking dates, release dates, and custody scope. Town Hall has nothing to do with that feed. Secondary publishers may slap Branford tags or addresses on their pages, but they are not town sources, and the official channels still come first.
| Channel | Photo? | Status | What it answers |
|---|---|---|---|
| SCSO SmartCOP JAIL View | Adult photos observed | Official | Recent, current, and searchable released bookings |
| SCSO Public Records | By lawful request | Official | Missing report, booking record, or source photo |
| Official county court search | Not a feed | Official | Docket events and final case disposition |
| Riverbend News | Sometimes in stories | News, selective | County jail reports and reported incidents |
| Busted Newspaper and Recently Booked | Often | Unofficial | Secondary discovery with Branford tags or county records |
| Arrests.org, Mugshots.com, Mugshots.zone | Often or historical | Unofficial | Possible copies that may be stale, incomplete, or wrong |
Busted Newspaper does carry real Branford tags, though its section covers the whole county. Recently Booked describes its own 30-day county section and update schedule, which is not an SCSO commitment of any kind. Mugshots.com can blend older county booking data with later Florida corrections records, so its images may come from entirely different custody events. Check the booking in SmartCOP, call the jail when current status matters, and confirm outcomes with the Clerk.
Note: A commercial site's tag may just reflect a reported address and not prove the arrest happened inside Branford.
Who Got Busted in Branford
SmartCOP has no Branford-only button. Work the county dataset with whatever verified details you have, then read the results. A surname alone can surface candidates. Adding first and middle names narrows the field. Booking start and end dates build a multi-day window, and separate release-date fields can track someone who has already left county custody. The form also lets you limit results to current inmates, released inmates, or both at once.
- Check the official last-24-hours SmartCOP landing view for a very recent county booking.
- Use a name or booking-date range when the event is older. Search both current and released entries if custody status is not known.
- Compare the full name, booking date and time, booking number, MNI number, and arresting agency. Do not rely on appearance alone.
- Save the statute and court case number from the charge row. A reported Branford address is not enough to establish arrest location.
- Use the Clerk's official search to follow filed charges, hearings, release orders, pleas, dismissal, and disposition.
A "current" status means Suwannee County Jail still holds the person. "Released" means the detention there has ended. The case itself can go on after release. SmartCOP refreshes on its own schedule, and no official page promises when it updates or how long a listing stays online. Need an answer right away, or a recent booking has not appeared yet? Call the jail booking desk at (386) 364-3778.
Every SmartCOP search field and county feed option lives on the full Suwannee County busted mugshot lookup. Note: The date form can build a seven-day query, though SCSO puts out no separate Branford weekly blotter.
Branford Arrest Record Requests
For a Sheriff's arrest report, county booking record, or intake photo tied to Branford, SCSO is the right public-records custodian. Its official records page names Traci McCormick as custodian and posts the Records Division number. Keep any request narrow: full name, approximate event or booking date, booking number if you have it, and the exact records you want. Ask for electronic delivery, and request an estimate before any chargeable work begins.
- Search SmartCOP first and copy the exact spelling, booking number, date, and court case number if the entry is available.
- Request the existing SCSO incident or arrest report and jail booking record or original booking photograph. Avoid asking for a custom summary.
- Ask the custodian to provide nonexempt portions if some details are withheld and to cite the legal authority for each redaction.
- Use the Clerk separately for a certified disposition or court filing. The jail does not control the final court record.

No set fee exists for a booking photo. Turnaround is not fixed, either. Florida's Chapter 119 opens any existing nonexempt record to you and lets the agency bill for copying or extensive staff work, so ask for an itemized estimate first. Some material stays off limits by law. That includes juvenile files, victim details, medical data, protected addresses, active investigations, and sealed or expunged records.
Branford Town Records Boundary
Branford Town Hall keeps the records the town itself produces. Think meeting minutes, utility matters, and everyday municipal business. Arrest reports are a different animal. Town Hall runs no jail, holds no booking photos, and has no hand in SmartCOP. A mugshot request sent to the town clerk just bounces back a day later, so route it to the Sheriff's custodian instead.

Town-created administrative records only
Need to reach law enforcement locally? The Sheriff's Branford office answers at (386) 935-4514. The agency main line is (386) 362-2222. Record requests still travel through the SCSO custodian, not the front desk. Call 911 for emergencies only, and keep records questions off the dispatch line.
Here is where Branford parts ways with Live Oak. Live Oak splits its files between a city police custodian and a county booking custodian. Branford has no city police department. So SCSO holds both the arrest report and the county booking record. The Clerk of Court separately tracks each case outcome.
Note: Branford Town Hall handles town records only, never a Sheriff's arrest report or county booking photo.
Branford Busted News Coverage
Riverbend News folds Branford into its coverage of Suwannee County and nearby areas. Its recurring "Jail Report" posts run about weekly. They sort bookings by county and date. Treat them as journalism, not a live feed from the Sheriff. Timing depends on when reporters receive the requested records. Standalone crime stories may rely on agency-supplied photos or video.
WCTV and WCJB TV20 both publish regional arrest stories. Neither offers a full Branford blotter. One WCJB piece, for instance, described a Branford resident busted in Columbia County. That gap matters. Where someone lives tells you nothing about which agency made the arrest, so when the record points outside Suwannee County, search the jail in that jurisdiction.
For the broader picture of area outlets, see the crime news and mugshot source map. Whatever a story says, confirm against SCSO or the arresting agency. Check case outcomes with the court custodian. News pages and aggregators run late, cherry-pick, duplicate, and sometimes just get it wrong.
After a Branford Busted Booking
SmartCOP's default view lists people booked within a rolling 24-hour window. A current-inmates search shows who was in Suwannee County Jail custody at the last update. A released-inmates result means the person has left that jail. None of those views settles what happened to the charge afterward.
State prison or state supervision calls for a different tool. Use the Florida Department of Corrections offender search. An FDC profile can show a corrections photo and DC number, but it is not the original Branford booking feed. Federal custody works the same way. The Bureau of Prisons locator answers a different question and posts no public booking photos. A miss in either system never disproves a county arrest.
Follow the trail in order. It starts with SCSO, moves through county booking, and ends at the Clerk's disposition. Each stop answers one question. Keeping them straight stops a weekly report, a released roster line, an old state photo, or a commercial copy from passing as proof of current custody.
Branford ICE Hold Records
Suwannee's published ICE 287(g) agreement covers limited jail functions and a possible transfer after local criminal custody ends. SmartCOP may flag a hold on a Branford-related booking. That flag alone reveals nothing. It says nothing about an immigration outcome or whether federal custody has actually started.
Once ICE takes custody, switch to the separate Online Detainee Locator System. It works only after a transfer. So it replaces neither SmartCOP nor the Clerk's case file. Never guess status from a name, a photo, a language, or an address. Verify the booking charge and any hold through the records themselves.
